Chrishell Stause, 43, known for her role on Selling Sunset, revealed a frightening medical experience she faced earlier this year involving her breast implants. In a heartfelt Instagram video, she explained that her silicone implants, placed 15 years ago, had ruptured. She underwent surgery to remove the damaged implants and replace them with new ones.
“At first, it feels like a mental block when you know your breast implants have ruptured,” Stause said. “It’s a strange feeling, and I didn’t like the thought that my body could be harmed.”
Discovery of the Rupture and Surgery
Stause shared that she had her original breast augmentation surgery about 15 years ago, performed by a surgeon who is no longer practicing. During a recent full-body scan, she learned the implants had ruptured, though she had not noticed any symptoms.
“That was the scary part — it came as a complete surprise,” she explained. “I didn’t have any symptoms at the time.”
Looking back, she admitted she might have ignored or not connected subtle signs to a medical problem.
The Role of Dr. Joseph Hadid
Stause thanked Dr. Joseph Hadid, the surgeon who removed her old implants and replaced them. She expressed confidence in his care after meeting him.
“When I met Dr. Hadid, I thought, ‘Okay, I found the best doctor,’” she said. She also advised others with older implants to get regular checkups, emphasizing, “A lot of people probably live with implants and don’t even know they are ruptured.”
Breaking the Stigma and Encouraging Awareness
Stause hoped to remove the stigma around breast implant complications. “The whole process was easier than I expected,” she said. “I was nervous, but it wasn’t as dramatic as I thought.”
Two months after surgery, Dr. Hadid confirmed that her new implants looked great.
In her Instagram caption, Stause described her initial fear about the rupture and surgery but expressed gratitude for Dr. Hadid and his team.
“Plastic surgery is a personal choice, and I would never encourage anyone to change their body,” she wrote. “But if you do, please stay healthy.”
Support and Medical Advice
Selling Sunset alum Heather Rae El Moussa commented, “Oh my god, I’m so sorry this happened.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, breast implant ruptures often do not cause symptoms. Some people may experience breast pain or changes in breast shape. If silicone leaks, it can cause irritation or scar tissue. The clinic recommends imaging tests about five years after implantation and regularly after that, as the risk of rupture increases over time.
Life Beyond Surgery
Last month, Stause shared photos from a luxury vacation in Greece with her wife G Flip and friend Chris Appleton. Reflecting on her journey, she wrote about her past struggles.
“If someone showed this to my 12-year-old self, washing my hair in the river and not knowing when I would have a place to call home again, I wouldn’t believe it,” she said.
