Last year, rapper and TV personality Chanel West Coast (real name Chelsea Chanel Dudley) shared her liposuction recovery on MTV’s The West Coast Hustle. In an exclusive with E! News, she called the experience “brutal” and said few people talk about how hard it really is.
“Once I realized how hard it was, I wanted to share more openly about it,” she explained. “All these girls are out there doing it, and no one tells anyone how brutal the recovery process is.”
Why She Chose Surgery
After giving birth to daughter Bowie Breeze in November 2022, Chanel wanted to reclaim her pre-baby body. She believes a great figure “doesn’t just happen.” For her, liposuction was the extra push she needed.
“I think, let me be honest with you, a great body doesn’t just happen. It’s a long, treacherous recovery process,” the 36-year-old said.
Painful Recovery Details
Chanel described weeks of intense itching and soreness. She said the toughest part lasted “months and months.”
“You itch for months during the recovery period. I was like, ‘Man, I can’t take this anymore,’” she recalled.
Despite the pain, she has no regrets. She believes she would have regained her shape eventually, but the surgery sped up the process.
“It was definitely a little help that I needed, though,” she said.
Balancing Motherhood, Music, and Business
Chanel debuted her Coasty Swim line in 2022, only to discover she was pregnant soon after. She postponed maternity swimwear and focused on healing and fitness post-baby.
“I obviously wasn’t doing maternity swimwear at the time, so that was a little hard,” she said.
Now that she feels fit again, she’s planning new shoots and promoting her swimwear. The idea came to her on vacation.
“It’s the perfect business because you can be on vacation and promote the products you’re selling at the same time,” Chanel explained. “I love beach life and lake life. I’m always by the water, and that’s why I created this line.”
Looking Ahead with Confidence
Chanel West Coast is ready for another confident summer. She uses her platform to be honest about cosmetic surgery and body image pressures.
“For all the girls out there who are pretending it’s easy, I’m like, ‘How did you do it? We need to know the secret,’” she said.
By sharing her story, she hopes to offer real insight into the challenges of elective surgery and the journey to self-confidence.
