Filipino OPM artist Katrina Velarde has revealed the reason behind her abrupt withdrawal from the two-day 98 Degrees concert at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. In a June 6 Facebook video, Velarde informed fans that she needed emergency surgery to remove a silicone nasal implant.
History of Implant Complications
Velarde shared that she has experienced complications for years after receiving nasal implants. Her first implant, made of Gore-Tex, was rejected by her body and later removed. She then underwent a second surgery, which also led to adverse reactions.
“It’s really rare that my body can’t accept an implant or a foreign object,” she explained.
Recent Surgery and Recovery
Dr. Eric C. Yapjuangco, known as “Doc Yappy,” performed the latest removal procedure. Velarde said she was still swollen at the time of the 98 Degrees concerts in May, making it impossible for her to perform.
“I was so swollen that I couldn’t stand it in 98 Degrees,” she said. “That’s why I had to cancel.”
She added that the recovery process takes time but assured followers she was healing well.

In the comments of her video, Velarde thanked fans for their concern and promised she would resume performing soon.
“Calm down, moms, I’m fine… I’ll be singing again in a few days,” she wrote. “Thank you. Good night.”
The singer’s openness highlights the risks of cosmetic implants and the importance of prompt medical attention when complications arise.
