L’Oréal Group has confirmed it will buy a majority stake in British skincare brand Medik8. The deal will place Medik8 under L’Oréal’s Luxe division. It is expected to close in the coming months, pending regulatory approvals and other usual conditions. Inflexion, Medik8’s private equity partner, will keep a minority share. Financial terms were not disclosed.
About Medik8
Medik8 was founded in 2009 by scientist Elliot Isaacs. The brand focuses on vitamin A derivatives, especially retinal, in products like Crystal Retinal. Medik8 is on track to generate about $115 million in global sales this year. Its revenue is projected to grow by 50 percent in 2024.
Strategic Fit
Cyril Chapuy, President of L’Oréal Luxe, said Medik8 will strengthen the group’s skincare range.
“Medik8 perfectly complements our existing portfolio with proven efficacy at an affordable price point,” Chapuy said.
“We believe in Medik8’s global potential and look forward to building its brand worldwide.”
Medik8 will join L’Oréal’s medical skincare brands such as La Roche-Posay, CeraVe, Vichy and SkinCeuticals.
Leadership and Continuity
Under the agreement, Medik8’s founders will remain on the board. The current management team will stay in place to ensure a smooth transition. L’Oréal also secured an option to buy out minority shareholders at a later date.
Executive Reactions
Simon Coble, Medik8’s CEO, welcomed the partnership.
“We share a vision for science, innovation and real results,” Coble said.
“Working with L’Oréal will help us reach a wider audience.”
Founder Elliot Isaacs added that L’Oréal shares Medik8’s commitment to sustainability and customer experience. He said the partnership will help realize Medik8’s global ambitions.
Next Steps
Once the deal closes, L’Oréal will consolidate Medik8’s sales. The two companies will work together to accelerate product development and expand market reach.
