Talk show host Kelly Ripa revealed she receives Botox injections in her jaw rather than her forehead or cheeks. Her dentist suggested the treatment to curb her nighttime teeth grinding and jaw clenching.
Bedtime Routine Sparks Conversation
On Wednesday’s episode of Kelly and Mark Live, Ripa and her husband, Mark Consuelos, discussed their evening rituals. Consuelos teased Ripa about her assortment of oral devices. “You have so much stuff in your mouth,” he joked. Ripa refused to clarify which retainer she wears—upper or lower—challenging him to figure it out himself.
Botox Eases Clenching and Grinding
Ripa explained that she once ground her teeth so severely that her dentist recommended Botox. “It changed my life,” she said. She credits the injections with relaxing her jaw muscles and preventing damage to her teeth and nerves.
Consuelos noted that teeth grinding can wear down enamel, cause jaw pain, and strain facial muscles. He added that stress, caffeine—and even “an annoying husband”—can trigger the habit. Left unchecked, grinding can lead to an overdeveloped jawline. “For men, it’s great,” he quipped, “but it’s painful for those who suffer through it.”
Fewer Oral Devices at Night
Since beginning Botox treatments, Ripa said she now wears only upper and lower retainers—no additional headgear. “That’s what I do,” she confirmed.
Kylie Minogue’s Dental Confessions
During an April segment of the show, singer Kylie Minogue admitted she never had braces as a child. As a result, she has worn a retainer for 35 years to keep her teeth aligned. Minogue also shared her surprising love of dental visits. On The 2021 Live Show with Ryan Seacrest, she described dentist appointments as relaxing and likened them to a “calming” experience, even without laughing gas.
She added that the hardest part of the COVID-19 lockdown was missing her routine cleanings every four months.
