Loose Women panellist Brenda Edwards, 56, is urging everyone to check their breasts after she discovered a “pea-sized” lump in the shower. Brenda—who beat breast cancer in 2016—wants others to act quickly on any warning signs.
“I feel amazing,” she told Woman magazine. “I’ve been cancer-free for 10 years. But that small lump reminded me how important self-checks are.”
From Backstage Chat to Life-Saving Diagnosis
Brenda credits a backstage conversation for saving her life. While talking with a friend who had just received a breast cancer diagnosis, she noticed a tiny lump herself. At first, she ignored it during her busy run as Maybelle “Motormouth” in Hairspray.
“One day, the pain came back and the lump felt bigger,” she recalled to OK! magazine. “I called my GP right away. A mammogram led to a biopsy. Waiting two weeks for results was the worst time of my life.”
Gruelling Treatment and Family Impact
Her treatment included a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, followed by months of recovery. Brenda chose to break the news to her children, Jamal and Tanesha, only after her diagnosis was confirmed.
“Telling them was the hardest part,” she said. “They went white and weak. I wanted to protect them, but I knew they needed to know.”
Celebrating a Decade Cancer-Free
Now healthy and full of energy, Brenda is focused on raising awareness. She praises Loose Women initiatives and highlights support from figures like Sarah Ferguson.
“My body is amazing, baby! I’m so grateful to be here,” she said. “If you find a lump, please see your GP. It’s scary, but early detection gives you the best chance.”

“Talk to someone you trust,” she added. “Fear vanishes when you take action. Please get checked—you could save your life.”
