Jennifer Garner Says Botox Didn’T Work Well, Warns About Injectables

by Alice

Jennifer Garner recently spoke openly about her experience with Botox and plastic surgery during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. The 53-year-old actress revealed she has tried Botox injections but was not satisfied with the results.

“As for injections, I feel like just find the right person and proceed with caution,” Garner said. “I don’t get a lot of them, and Botox doesn’t work very well for me; so I often have bangs.”

She explained, “I like to move my forehead, and it takes up a big part of my face,” adding humorously, “It’s like I have five heads.”

Considering Plastic Surgery but Taking a Cautious Approach

Garner also discussed the idea of plastic surgery, saying she has thought about it but was advised against it by doctors.

“I’m not going to judge what makes someone look or feel best,” she stated. “I haven’t needed it yet, but I’ve definitely asked doctors before, ‘Do I need to do this?’”

She recalled, “I’ve had some really good doctors, but they all said, ‘No.’”

Still, she did not completely rule out surgery in the future. “Only God knows what people are going to be talking about in 10 years. I’m not there yet,” Garner admitted.

The Importance of Sun Protection

The Daredevil actress emphasized how vital sun protection has been in maintaining her youthful appearance. She is glad she started using sunscreen early in life.

“I never went out in the sun in my 20s—I didn’t have the patience—and luckily I wore sunscreen,” Garner said. “I can tell you that sunscreen gets better every year, every iteration, every year. Now that I’m in my 50s, I’m grateful for it.”

How She Views Herself as She Ages

Garner shared her perspective on aging and self-image.

“One of my gifts as a mom’s daughter is that I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about how I look,” she said. “I don’t spend a lot of time looking in the mirror.”

She added with a laugh, “Sometimes I spend more time looking in the mirror; I’m sure I have something growing on my teeth or a bump in my hair. So it’s a plus and a minus.”

Reflecting on her public image, she said, “If you look through the paparazzi pictures of me from the last 20-plus years, you’ll see them and say, ‘You better spend more time thinking about how you look.’”

Despite this, Garner is not overly worried about aging. “Sure, there will be times when I’m working and I look at my monitor and I’m like, ‘Who’s that? Ah, it’s me!’”

She believes in a “less is more” approach to self-focus. “What are you going to do? I want to age. I want to live to be 100. I don’t expect to look the same at 100 as I do today. I want to wear every piece of clothing from the last 100 years and feel great.”

Embracing Age and Wisdom

Garner expressed happiness with her current age and does not wish to be younger.

“I’m so grateful to be this old,” the mother of three said. “I’m trying to absorb it all. I feel like I’m living in my power, my wisdom, my joy, my abilities, my accomplishments. So I’m very aware of how lucky I am and how blessed I am.”

Advice to Young Women on Cosmetic Procedures

In a 2022 interview with Elle, Garner warned young women about injectable fillers.

“My advice is to look in the mirror less and be very careful about injecting anything into your face,” she said. “Be very, very careful and wait as long as possible before you do it. Don’t think that because you’re 37, you need to inject something into your face.”

Thoughts on Aging in 2024

In March 2024, Garner spoke with People magazine about her feelings on aging.

“Honestly, the thing I’m most grateful for is that I’m still alive,” she said. “I’m grateful for the wisdom that I’ve gained over the years and I’m very grateful to be able to see other women navigate this phase of their lives so gracefully.”

She encouraged young women not to fear aging. “‘Take care of yourself, but don’t be afraid.’ Aging is a gift,” she said.
