On a recent episode of Radio Andy’s The Julia Cunningham Show, Heidi Montag opened up about a challenging moment from the 2010 season of The Hills. It was during this episode that she first revealed her extensive plastic surgery to her mother on camera.
“It was really hard,” Heidi admitted to Julia Cunningham. She explained that her relationship with her mom was nearly broken at the time but has since healed. “Now we’re really close again because I love my mom. I think she was really eager to see me. First of all, she was really worried about me, and I hadn’t seen her before. As a mom, I understand that.”
A Raw and Vulnerable Confession
Heidi described how tense the situation was when the cameras rolled. She recalled telling her mom bluntly, “Whatever,” referring to the producers’ behavior in the days prior. “They had been there a week beforehand and were fawning over her and doing all this stuff and blah, blah.”
She continued, “I said, ‘I’m just telling you that they’re jetting me there. Obviously, this is a big deal because they’re not going to do it lightly. They’re investing a lot of money in this, and I’m going to hold you accountable for whatever you say.’”
Heidi emphasized the seriousness of her condition, sharing, “I don’t care what the producers tell you. Whatever you say is going to be very important and serious. I’m in a terrible state. I can barely speak. My jaw has just been sawed off, my ears are pulled back. I’m not a person now. I’m vulnerable. I’m not your normal daughter.”
The Fallout and Healing
Looking back, Heidi revealed the deep impact of that moment. “So I knew beforehand, and yeah, the result is—it didn’t get better,” she said somberly. “I don’t think I spoke to my mom for two years after that.”
Today, she and her mother have rebuilt their relationship, but that episode remains a poignant chapter in Heidi’s life—a time of raw vulnerability, pain, and eventual healing.
