TOKYO, May 13, 2025 – SUQQU, a top beauty brand, has unveiled a new setting powder housed in a luxurious compact made from Eastman Cristal™ One copolyester. This new packaging choice marks a significant step towards sustainability in the beauty industry.
A Sustainable Solution for Compact Bases
SUQQU realized it needed a more sustainable alternative to acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) for its compact bases. The company partnered with Eastman, and together they found that Cristal One not only met SUQQU’s strict functional requirements but also preserved the brand’s luxurious aesthetic. The recyclable resin allowed SUQQU to offer consumers a more sustainable option for its iconic compacts.
Cristal One: A Recyclable and Durable Alternative
Eastman’s Cristal One portfolio is a specialty PET material that offers cosmetic brands a solution for end-of-life disposal. The material has been recognized by the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) and RecyClass for its compatibility with the Resin Identification Code 1 (RIC1) stream, which allows it to be recycled within most municipal recycling systems.
As global sustainability regulations evolve, SUQQU has ensured that its new compact design meets the European Commission’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), and is actively working towards full compliance with these regulations.
Luxury and Durability Combined
Cristal One provides superior durability and aesthetic quality compared to other materials like PET. It offers excellent drop impact resistance and maintains high performance even after secondary processing, making it ideal for luxury cosmetic packaging.
Tara Cary, Eastman’s Cosmetic Packaging Market Manager, emphasized the growing consumer demand for sustainable beauty products. She stated,

The new compact’s design has been praised for its deep, glossy black appearance, something that was difficult to achieve with the ABS material previously used by SUQQU. Cristal One not only delivers the desired luxury aesthetic but also meets the brand’s rigorous design and performance standards.

Surpassing Expectations with High Sales
Since its launch in February, the new setting powder housed in Cristal One packaging has surpassed all sales expectations. SUQQU reported that sales exceeded their monthly target by 187%, a strong indication of the growing demand for sustainable beauty products.
