Sofia Umansky, daughter of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards, has opened up about experiencing “serious hair loss”—a condition she believes is tied to rapid weight loss after using the prescription drug Mounjaro.
The 25-year-old TV personality and Buying Beverly Hills star took to TikTok to share her story. She revealed that her hair has been falling out at a noticeable rate over the past several weeks.
“I’m lucky I have so much hair,” Sofia said. “Because at the rate I’m losing it, I’d be bald in about a week.”
What Is Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is the brand name for Tirzepatide, an FDA-approved drug originally intended for type 2 diabetes treatment. However, it has gained popularity for its effectiveness in weight loss.
Sofia confirmed she has been taking the drug for about four months. While she doesn’t believe the hair loss is a direct side effect of the medication, she does suspect it stems from how quickly she lost weight after starting it.
Sofia Shows the Effects on Social Media
In a candid TikTok video, Sofia showed her followers strands of her hair that had fallen out before, during, and after a shower.
She demonstrated how simply running her fingers through her hair would result in a handful of strands coming loose.
“You don’t even see half of it,” she added.
Suspected Cause: Nutrition Deficiency
Sofia believes her hair loss is related to a lack of nutrients caused by her rapid weight loss.
“I think it was due to the rapid weight loss from the medication, as well as not taking in enough vitamins, protein—things like that,” she explained.
She admitted that when she first began taking Mounjaro, she wasn’t focused on maintaining a balanced diet or getting enough protein and nutrients.
A Shift Toward Better Nutrition
Now, Sofia says she is making important changes to support her hair and health. Her updated routine includes:
Increasing protein and vitamin intake
Using specialized hair care products
Taking collagen supplements
She hopes these changes will help stop the hair loss and strengthen her hair.
Openness About Her Experience
Despite the side effects, Sofia expressed appreciation for Mounjaro and remains transparent about her journey.
“If anyone has any questions about my experience on Mounjaro, I’d love to answer them,” she said. “I’m very open about it, which I think is great.”
Sofia’s story sheds light on a growing trend where weight loss medications like Mounjaro are being used beyond their original purpose—and on the importance of nutrition and self-care when making health-related changes.
