Growth Bomb, the Melbourne-based haircare company, has sold over one million products in five years. This week, it introduced what it calls the first haircare line designed specifically for women experiencing postpartum hair loss.
Three-Product Range Hits Major Retailers
The new Postnatal Support collection includes:
Supplements that nourish from within
Scalp serums to restore scalp balance
Shampoos formulated for gentle cleansing
These items target hair thinning, increased shedding, and dryness caused by shifting estrogen levels after childbirth. They are now available in more than 1,700 Australian outlets—including 850 Woolworths, 350 Priceline, and 510 Chemist Warehouse stores.
Focus on Scalp and Gut Microbiome
Hannah Butters, Growth Bomb’s brand owner, told SmartCompany that existing brands support hair growth but neglect scalp and gut health. “Our range offers three products that work together to support hair through its full growth cycle during hormonal changes,” she said.
Founders’ Track Record of Success
Growth Bomb was founded in 2020 by Hamish Buckley and Blair James, the same entrepreneurs behind Bondi Sands. Bondi Sands grew into Australia’s leading sun care exporter and sold to Kao Corporation for approximately $450 million in August 2023.
Rapid Sales Growth and Global Expansion
Since its launch:
-
Growth Bomb has achieved a 40% year-on-year growth in unit sales.
-
Australian retail sales jumped 46% year-on-year.
-
Sales in the UK, US, and EU have doubled year-on-year.
Their products now appear in 840 Coles stores, 400 TerryWhite Chemmarts, over 1,500 independent pharmacies, and major chains across New Zealand. The brand plans to enter Target in the US later this year.
Half of All Women Face Hair Loss
Research shows one in two women will experience hair loss in their lifetime. Butters said Growth Bomb identified postpartum and late pregnancy as high-risk periods, with 50% of women losing hair after childbirth. One founder’s personal experience—his wife’s postnatal hair loss—spurred the product development.
Holistic Support During Postpartum Recovery
Butters emphasized the mental toll hair loss can take on new mothers adjusting to life changes. “Women don’t need another one-size-fits-all product,” she said. “Our targeted Postnatal Support range gives women confidence that their hair will recover stronger and healthier.”
Looking Ahead
As Growth Bomb enters the postpartum segment, the brand aims to build on its rapid growth and global footprint. By focusing on scalp health, gut balance, and a personalised approach, it hopes to lead a new wave of specialised haircare solutions for women.
