Plastic surgeons say more patients now want facial features that resemble members of the Trump family. Dr. Norman Lowe, a board-certified surgeon who practiced in Manhattan, the Hamptons, and Palm Beach, noticed a sharp rise in these requests about six months ago. After the pandemic, Lowe expanded his practice to Florida and says he saw “a big change” in patient preferences.
Similarly, Dr. Mark Epstein, a double-board-certified surgeon in New York City, first observed this trend in summer 2024. At that time, Donald Trump was gaining renewed attention. “I noticed that things really started to pick up,” Epstein told The Washington Post. He added, “What I felt was a sudden change in consumer sentiment that I can’t explain any other way.”
Characteristics of the “Mar-a-Lago Face”
Surgeons describe the new ideal as the so-called “Mar-a-Lago face.” This look includes:
-
Full lips
-
Chiseled cheekbones
-
Large eyes
-
A smooth, tight forehead with few wrinkles
Patients who spend time at upscale Florida clubs, such as the Everglades Club in Palm Beach or the Breakers Club, often share an outdoor, warm-weather lifestyle. Dr. Lowe explains, “They take care of themselves and want to look good. It’s a very outdoor lifestyle, and it’s always warm, so you can’t wear a lot of layers or cover up with a turtleneck.”
Patients Seek Ivanka Trump’s Look
Many Americans now want to look like Ivanka Trump, the second child and daughter of Donald Trump. She is widely seen as the most popular and attractive member of the Trump family. Dr. Thomas Rowe in Palm Beach reports that up to 15 clients a day visit his office hoping to capture Ivanka Trump’s facial features in photos.
Limits to Exact Duplication
Surgeons caution that exact duplication of any celebrity’s face is impossible. Dr. Rowe says adjustments must be made to fit each patient’s unique structure. “If they say, ‘I like her lips,’ I can give you lips or nose, but you must have a model to refer to,” he explains. “If someone is 4 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds, that’s obviously not okay.” In other words, surgeons adapt the desired features to suit each patient’s proportions and overall health.
Other Celebrity Influences
It is not only Ivanka Trump’s face that inspires requests. Some of Dr. Rowe’s long-time clients also want to look like U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, whom they feel “looks great.” This shows a broader pattern: patients choose public figures they admire and ask surgeons to tailor their own features accordingly.
Plastic surgeons agree that, while facial fillers may fall in and out of fashion, the demand for surgery to achieve a magazine-cover look will continue. Right now, however, many patients seem eager to adopt the defining traits of the Trump family’s most recognized faces.
