KANPUR — Dr. Anushka Tiwari, a dental surgeon accused in the deaths of two engineers following hair transplant procedures, surrendered before the Kanpur District Additional Court on Monday. However, police now say she is on the run.
Police: Doctor Currently Absconding
Abhishek Pandey, Deputy Commissioner of Kalyanpur Police, confirmed that Dr. Tiwari is now absconding. “Multiple police teams are working to track her down,” he told reporters.
Dr. Tiwari was wanted in connection with the deaths of two men who underwent hair transplant surgery. The procedures reportedly took place at her clinic in Kanpur.
Dispute Over Who Performed the Surgeries
During a recent court hearing, Dr. Tiwari claimed that she did not perform the procedures. Instead, she alleged that another doctor from Bala carried out the surgeries. However, initial police investigations suggest that Dr. Tiwari performed both hair transplants herself.
Authorities say the hair transplants cost Rs 40,000. The victims, whose identities have not yet been officially disclosed, died shortly after the procedures.
Questions Raised Over Doctor’s Qualifications
The case has shocked both law enforcement and the public. Dr. Anushka Tiwari holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from Manav Rachna Dental College. Police say they were surprised to learn that a dental surgeon was performing hair transplant operations, which typically fall outside the scope of a dentist’s professional training.
Authorities are continuing their investigation. More details are expected as the case progresses.
