Chrissy Teigen has shared the reason behind her recent hospital stay, revealing that she underwent a cosmetic procedure to lower her hairline. The 39-year-old model and Cravings cookbook author addressed the topic on her Instagram Stories, just days after posting a video that showed her face wrapped in bandages.
Teigen Explains Her Hair Loss and Procedure
“Hi friends! A lot of you were curious about my hospital pics, which is understandable since I didn’t explain lol,” Teigen wrote in a post shared this May. “I had a procedure to lower my hairline,” she continued, adding a photo where she gently pulled back her bandages to reveal stitches along her hairline.
Teigen went on to explain the reason behind the surgery. “After having kids, I lost a lot of my hair in the front and it’s very sparse now,” she said. “The hair you saw on the carpet must have been extensions.”
Teigen is a mother of four. She gave birth to daughter Luna Simone in 2016 and son Miles Theodore in 2018. In 2023, she welcomed daughter Esti Maxine and son Wren Alexander via surrogate. All four children are with her husband, singer John Legend, 46.

Teigen ended her Instagram message by promising more updates if fans are interested. “I’ll share more later,” she wrote, noting that the surgery has been “a journey.”
A History of Cosmetic Enhancements
This isn’t Teigen’s first experience with cosmetic procedures. In 2021, she revealed that she had undergone an eyebrow transplant. The procedure involves taking hair from the back of the head and implanting it in the brow area to make the eyebrows appear fuller.
“I never wear makeup if I can avoid it, so I’m super excited about this eyebrow transplant,” she captioned a photo at the time. She credited doctors Jason Diamond and Jason Champagne for the procedure.
After the surgery, she showed off her new brows, calling the results “crazy” and saying, “They look so cool.” In a short video, she added, “He lifted them up and made them look more even.”
Bold Hair Choices Over the Years
Teigen is also known for her adventurous hairstyle changes. In February, she debuted a chic short bob after cutting her long hair. She unveiled the fresh look at the 2025 Grammy Awards and followed up with a selfie taken in her walk-in closet the next day.
She has experimented with hair color as well. In 2021, she dyed her hair light pink, and in 2020, she tried various blonde and light brown highlights.
