Dolly Parton and the late Kenny Rogers maintained a brother-sister rapport throughout their decades-long friendship.
Parton said she joked with Rogers about his plastic surgery the last few times she saw him. “I told him, ‘Kenny, I’m so glad I’m alive today to see you with all that stuff,’” she shared on The Howard Stern Show.
“He thought it was hilarious, but you know, as he gets older…his skin starts to loosen up and it looks more natural. But it’s always a risk…every time I go to do anything, I’m like, ‘God, please…make it better.’”

Rogers opened up about getting plastic surgery, admitting he felt pressure to keep up with the next generation of talent. Although he saw a celebrity doctor, he was critical of the plastic surgery he had around his eyes. Before his death in 2020, Rogers had expressed “regret” for having cosmetic eye surgery, but admitted that he wasn’t sure what he would look like if he hadn’t had it done.
Joking aside, Parton said she made Rogers “feel a lot better” about the surgery. “It’s especially hard for men because you can’t wear makeup or all kinds of eyelashes and stuff like that,” she said. “That doctor was one of the best,” she said of Rogers’ surgeon.
“You never know how you’re going to heal, and you never know what’s going to happen, so you absolutely need to find the best doctors. The ones that get the most attention, or the ones that are highly recommended. If you’re going to do something to your face, if someone messes up your body, you can cover it up a little bit, but, man, if your face is exposed all the time, you have to be careful. So I try to do just a little bit at a time. I don’t like to do a big bang,” she explained.
Parton said she only uses fillers and Botox when she really needs it. “And even then, I try to be careful.”
The hard part, she said, is how your body reacts. “It changes your expression. Even if the surgery itself is good, it changes your personality. It really changes.”
So far, Parton has had good luck. She says she’s often asked about her face, and she always says, “‘Just find the best doctor.'”
