On March 5, 28-year-old Armonique Miller flew from Las Vegas to Miami to undergo cosmetic procedures at Avana Plastic Surgery. She planned to have a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) and liposuction alongside her sister, Kiera Barnes.
Unlicensed Rehabilitation Facility
After surgery on March 7, Miller and her sister stayed at a private “rehab” center run out of a home. Miami police later described the location—known as Keyla’s Service—as an illegal post-plastic-surgery rehabilitation facility.
Discovery and Emergency Response
Between noon and 1 p.m. on March 7, Miller was placed on bed rest by staff at the center. At around 9:30 p.m., employees checked on her and found her unresponsive. They called 911, but responders arrived to find Miller already in rigor mortis. Her official time of death was recorded as 10:26 p.m.
Autopsy Findings
The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Miller’s cause of death as acute mixed drug intoxication. Toxicology revealed oxycodone—a prescription painkiller—and bromazolam, a potent designer drug often found in counterfeit pills. The examiner’s report noted that taking these drugs so soon after surgery impaired breathing and likely led to her death during sleep.
Allegations of Improper Medication
According to police reports, Keyla Oliver—the home’s operator—admitted she was not licensed to dispense medication. Oliver told investigators she gave Miller two Percocet pills. Barnes told police Oliver also administered an unprescribed muscle relaxant from Oliver’s personal prescription and Percocet from an unlabeled bottle because Miller’s own medication had not arrived.
Family Remembers Armonique
Miller leaves behind a one-year-old daughter. In April, her mother told NBC 6 South Florida, “My daughter was supposed to be here with her daughter, but unfortunately, she is not.” She added, “I never thought I would be writing an obituary for my child. She was smart, beautiful, and full of life. It’s just a huge loss.”
Ongoing Inquiries
Miami police continue their investigation into Oliver’s operation of an unlicensed rehab facility and the circumstances that led to Miller’s death. The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner and Keyla’s Service have not yet responded to requests for further comment.
