Park Myung-Soo And Guests Talk Hair Loss: “Why No Cure Yet?”

by Alice

On June 11, Park Myung-soo’s Radio Program on KBC Cool FM aired a spirited discussion about inherited hair loss and the urgent need for effective treatments. During the show’s “Suxin Statement” segment, hosts Park Myung-soo, Lee Hyun-yi, and rapper Sleepy weighed in on a listener’s story—and lamented how far science still must go.

Listener’s Story Highlights Family Hair Loss

A listener wrote to the show, saying her family suffers from baldness across three generations. She explained:

“Three generations live together,” she wrote.

She often returns home to find wigs hanging in the bathroom.

Hosts React: “Why Hasn’t This Been Solved?”

After reading the message, Lee Hyun-yi sighed, “I’m in my 30s—it feels early to face this.” Park Myung-soo then pointed out the irony that, despite advances in artificial intelligence and space exploration, hair-growth solutions remain elusive. He asked, “Why haven’t we developed a true hair-growth drug yet? If someone cracked this, it would be a fortune.”

Both guests agreed:

Sleepy: “Whoever develops a real hair-growth treatment will be truly lucky.”

Lee Hyun-yi: “The number of people with hair loss has only grown in recent years.”

Scale of the Problem: Millions Affected

Park Myung-soo underscored the issue’s scale. He estimated tens of millions in South Korea suffer from hair loss. Lee Hyun-yi added that women’s hair-loss struggles are often hidden but equally painful. “Women face more stress when their hair thins,” she said.

Sleepy recalled appearing on a hair-loss TV show, where he began to notice his own M-shaped hairline receding. Park Myung-soo remembered audiences throwing hats at him onstage, masking their own baldness. “We all tried to cover it up,” he laughed, “because so many people share this fear.”

A National Priority?

In a lighthearted moment, Park Myung-soo quipped that solving hair loss should be a presidential priority. “If the president fixed this problem, approval ratings would skyrocket,” he joked. Lee Hyun-yi agreed that a breakthrough would unite—and delight—millions of citizens.

Despite the humor, the hosts made a serious point: hair loss remains a widespread concern with no definitive cure. They closed the segment urging researchers and policymakers to accelerate efforts toward an effective, affordable solution.
