Oscar-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis, best known for her role in Halloween, has shared a personal reflection on her decision to undergo plastic surgery at a young age—something she says she regrets to this day.
Criticism Sparked Early Surgery
Speaking during an appearance on CBS’s 60 Minutes, Curtis, now 66, recalled the moment that pushed her toward surgery. She was just 25 years old and filming the 1985 movie Perfect when a photographer made a harsh comment about her appearance.
“He said, ‘Yeah, I’m not taking her today. Her eyes are puffy,’” Curtis recounted.
Embarrassed and hurt by the remark, she chose to undergo a cosmetic procedure as soon as filming wrapped.
Regret Set In Quickly
When asked how the surgery turned out, Curtis didn’t hold back.
“Not very well. It’s not something a 25, 26-year-old wants to do,” she said. “I regretted it straight away and have regretted it a little bit ever since.”
The experience had a lasting emotional impact on the actress. What started as a response to external pressure became a personal burden she would carry for decades.
Becoming an Advocate for Self-Acceptance
Now a vocal supporter of self-love and body positivity, Curtis has used her platform to encourage others—especially women—to embrace their natural beauty.
“It does now because I’ve become a real public advocate for women to say, ‘You’re beautiful, you’re perfect the way you are,’” she said.
Looking back, she admitted the surgery was “not a good thing” for her, reinforcing her belief in promoting self-acceptance over societal standards.
