Dino, a Hong Kong-based YouTuber known as LowTechShow, recently shared his experience undergoing a hair transplant in Shenzhen, China. The procedure, which cost around HK$66,000, was both painful and uncomfortable, as documented in a video that quickly gained nearly 80,000 views.
From Over-the-Counter Failures to Surgery
Dino’s hair loss journey began with years of trying various over-the-counter treatments, none of which worked. Faced with a wide variety of hair transplant clinics in mainland China, Dino chose a clinic promising to launch soon in Hong Kong, trusting their reliability.
The Surgery Day: Eight Hours and Live-Streaming
On surgery day, Dino underwent a thorough consultation where the medical team assessed his hair loss at level four out of seven, noting a high hairline and severe baldness. The transplant itself lasted eight hours and was split into two parts. Dino’s family was able to watch a live stream of the surgery.
Despite the attentive medical care, Dino described severe pain during the second half as the anesthetic effect faded.
The Painful Recovery and “Frankenstein” Swelling
A few days post-surgery, Dino’s face was severely swollen—from forehead down to his chin. Fans humorously dubbed him “Frankenstein” during this difficult recovery phase. The clinic set up a WeChat group to closely monitor his condition and provide consultation, which Dino credited as critical support.
Reflecting on the Hair Transplant Process
Looking back, Dino emphasized that hair transplantation is a long-term commitment, with results taking up to a year to fully appear. Although the procedure cost less than options in Hong Kong and Taiwan, the difficulty of the operation and the demanding aftercare made him question if the initial savings were worth it.
