Olivia Munn publicly shared her breast cancer diagnosis in March 2024 and has been open about her experiences as a mother and cancer survivor. At an event celebrating the launch of People magazine’s new app, Munn discussed how she has learned to accept and embrace her double mastectomy scars.
Overcoming Insecurities
When asked about the attention she’s been receiving, Munn explained that she is focused on caring for her two children, which leaves little room for concerns about public perception. However, she revealed that her thoughts have recently been centered on her double mastectomy scars and the decision to undergo laser treatments.
After the release of her Skims campaign, Munn shared her decision to publicly show her scars. The positive feedback, especially from cancer survivors, made her feel more at peace with them. “It touched my heart and made me feel proud of my scars,” she said. As a result, Munn stopped her laser treatments and canceled further appointments, deciding that her scars are a symbol of her strength.
Proud of Her Scars
Speaking to Access Hollywood at the Women’s Cancer Research Foundation’s “A Night to Remember 2025,” Munn elaborated on her decision to embrace her scars. “These scars, at least on me, I’m proud of now,” she said. “I don’t want to cover them up anymore because people are so thoughtful.”
In an Instagram post showcasing photos from her SKIMS campaign, Munn explained her mindset shift: “I decided to stop being insecure about my mastectomy scars. Every mark that life has left on me is a testament to how hard I’ve fought,” she wrote. “I hope other women who have always been shy about their scars can see these photos and feel the love I’m sending them.”
Munn’s journey of self-acceptance has inspired many, as she continues to celebrate her body and share her message of strength with others.
